The mind has shut down all sign of cranial activity. The eyes are either closed or looking over the pages of some trashy novel. The ears register only sounds related to babies. The rest is filtered as just so much noise. The world has ebbed away. Is Newt Gingrich threatening to launch a presidential campaign again? Who're the Ohio State Buckeyes playing this weekend? Is Musharraf going to finally resign as army chief? Issues once fodder for intense discussion have fallen by the wayside.
The mouth opens only to recount yet another instance of baby movement to a bored audience. The limbs move only to swipe the credit card at Target or Babies 'r' Us for diapers or onesies. Otherwise, they lay supine, static, like the projections of a sleepy starfish whose dead center is one humongous belly.
This is the status two weeks before the baby's expected arrival. Expect continued inertia.

muser, all the best! You're proceeding at the same pace as sister-in-law who's due last week of Oct. I hope you'll post baby pictures to go with the labor and delivery story.
Inert away....soon you will be very very busy.
All the best! Eagerly awaiting the baby's arrival...!
was wondering if the baby had arrived since i didnt see you in blogsville for a while..
when i waspregnant with n4 i'd read and re-read asterix comics in the middle of the night when i couldnt sleep. had told the hubby baby would come only after i had finished them all for the third time. read the last on friday evening and went into labour saturday early morning!
Terri, hopefully there won't be any labor pix! We've scheduled a C-section to avoid precisely that. But baby pix, for sure...
Crazymumma, I know, I know. Am taking full advantage of this time.
GTN, Thanks!
Choxbox, hehehe, for me it's murder mysteries (without too much gore so mostly Agatha Christies) and romance novels by Nora Roberts. Am a lifelong Asterix and Tintin fan though!
Came in here through Rads'. Congrats, enjoy the baby, relax (childbirth is not something you cant get thro-we've done it and so can you!!)
God Bless
Welcome to my blog, Musings, and thanks for the wishes! Don't know if you had a chance to read some other posts, but I do have a 3-year-old, so this isn't my first experience in childbirth -- thank goodness! Raina was born via C-section after a long and difficult labor, so we're hoping to circumvent the labor and go straight for the operation.
One thought just struck me and I came right over here to pour it out? Once the little one comes, will you change the name of the blog? Or maybe you can name him/her "Raina 2". Hehehe...
Just wondering....
I would've changed the blog name, but unfortunately it's the URL that's raisingraina, so can't change that. At least tech-challenged me doesn't know how. Initially, my blog's name was the same, then I realized that I was blogging about more than parenting :)))
Ooops! I did mean the URL. I know that your blog's name indicates that you do more than parenting.
And no. I don't know either :P
a muser:
maybe like many others, it's time for you to move over to wordpress. you can get a new url ...
did i ever recommend nero wolfe in your vicinity? if i haven't, i must - check him out. no gory bodies, no gruesome details, pure armchair detecting fun. oh, before i forget, the gigantic nero will make you feel like you are a puny paramoecium (haddock never called anyone that, did he?), not a star-fish or a four-limbed octopus!
meanwhile, here is a discussion that - i am sure - you can add more than $0.02 worth of rock, hard place, etc.!!
- s.b.
GTN, s.b. -- Yeah, maybe I need to take a page from Rads' book and switch allegiances. I have read Nero Wolfe -- though not for a long time and I can't for the life of me remember why I stopped because I did enjoy him and his orchid fetish. Thanks for reminding me!
muser - the last few weeks are painfully boring. At least they were for me :)
Rest easy, the storm's a-coming :D
Good luck, and pls do post pics.
Thanks, Rads! Will post pix for sure.
